Money to be made from Queensland Hotels according to Terry Morris

All round entrepreneur and business guru Terry Morris of Sirromet fame isn’t slowing down in his seventh decade, embarking on yet another exciting enterprise with the joint purchase of over $10 million in Queensland Hotels under The Good Times Pub Group.

In partnership with Morris International chief executive Dean Merrell and a third investor, the group have spent the past year on a hotel buyout.

Since June last year they have acquired the Dugandan Hotel at Boonah, Oasis Hotel, Dalby, Westbrook Junction Tavern, Toowoomba, Australian Hotel, Boonah, Tarampa Hotel, Lowood, and Warehouse Tavern, Yatala.

The group clearly believe there is money to be made already quoting ‘double the takings’ in 12 months at the Dugandan in particular.

In testimony to recent hotel trends and statistics, according to Morris recently quoted on couriermail.com.au on 20.08.12, there is nothing fancy to improving operations “it’s just looking after people, making sure the toilets are clean, making sure the food’s good value, making sure the beer’s cold.”

The core business strategy includes the vertical integration of wine sales and gross profit margin with a target to sell approximately 20,000 bottles of Sirromet wine at each hotel.

And whilst turning regional pubs into wine a bar isn’t on the agenda the group are clearly looking to improve options around food and wine pairing for the increasingly quality conscious diner.
